Guangzhou (ANTARA) - Chinese technology giant Huawei on Monday (7/9) launched the tri-fold Mate XT 2 smartphone powered by the new Kirin 9050 Pro, the first high-performance processor to use logic folding technology.

The Kirin 9050 Pro stacks logic units in layers within a single chip, shortening signal transmission paths, reducing latency and improving overall performance, according to information presented at the launch event in Guangzhou.

The last time Huawei introduced a new Kirin chip at a flagship product launch was with the global release of the Mate 40 smartphone six years ago. The company has continued to innovate and achieved new breakthroughs in recent years.

The company’s research and development expenditure surged to 121.38 billion yuan (1 yuan = Rp2,627) in the first half (H1) of 2026, marking a record high for the period and accounting for more than a quarter of the company’s total revenue.

Huawei has advanced rapidly across various technology-intensive fields, including artificial intelligence (AI), chips, operating systems and smart vehicles, supported by sustained R&D intensity that underpins the company’s long-term technological capabilities.

The strategy appears to be paying off in the market. According to IDC data, Huawei’s smartphone shipments grew 19.4 per cent year on year (yoy) in the second quarter (Q2) of 2026, pushing its market share up to 22.6 per cent and placing it at the top position in China.

While the industry as a whole remains under pressure, Huawei stands out as one of the few major vendors to record significant growth, analysts said.
