Barcelona, Spain (ANTARA/PRNewswire) – At MWC Barcelona 2026, Huawei launched the iFTTO solution designed to accelerate intelligent transformation in campus environments through the use of artificial intelligence (AI). By integrating optical networks and AI technology, iFTTO builds a strong foundation for developing a range of AI applications on campus. The solution delivers convergence of multidimensional information, intelligent operations and maintenance (O&M), and open IoT, enabling campuses to evolve into truly smart environments.

As AI applications on campuses advance, traditional physical spaces are becoming digital, intelligent ecosystems. This evolution demands higher network bandwidth and lower latency, while also presenting new challenges in managing smart campuses. In this context, Huawei has upgraded FTTO to iFTTO to push campus networks beyond conventional connectivity toward convergence of multidimensional information and the Internet of Things (IoT). The transformation creates an integrated foundation that blends capabilities in vision, computing, and control, while accelerating steps toward smarter campuses, said Perry Yang, President, Huawei Enterprise Optical Domain.

To meet the evolving needs of smart campuses, Huawei introduces the O-N.E.X.T concept, which combines optical and intelligent technologies within the iFTTO solution. The approach changes the value proposition of campus networks and promotes the creation of a new smart campus ecosystem.

The N.E.X.T concept comprises four main innovative features:

N – Network Unified by Optical: optical networks connect directly to terminal devices, so the network architecture shifts from a two-layer to a single, simpler and more efficient layer. E – Ecosystem of Open IoT: through the industry’s first optical IoT access point with Wi-Fi 7 tri-band and featuring the NearLink module and built-in Bluetooth, the solution supports unified deployment and network and IoT connectivity through a single system. X – X-Dimensional Information Fusion: supports diverse multidimensional data sources such as visuals, Wi‑Fi channels, radio frequencies, and 3D LiDAR so that AI applications can run via multimodal collaborative computing. T – Towards Autonomous Operation: Huawei introduces the industry’s first intelligent agent for optical-based campus network O&M. The system supports interactive and proactive O&M, as well as enabling more efficient closed-loop management. In addition, the O – Open 3-Layer Computing Power concept supports AI deployment through cloud, edge and device collaboration, enabling use across sectors such as smart healthcare and energy-efficient hospitality.

Huawei’s iFTTO solution provides unique added value for various industry scenarios including education, healthcare and hospitality.

In education, the solution uses passive all-optical aggregation and optical Wi-Fi 7 tri-band access points to deliver ultra-10G connectivity in every room, building an ultra-broadband campus network. The system also supports integrated control of lighting and room cooling to help reduce energy consumption. In student dormitories, AI algorithms prioritise essential services to improve user experience. In healthcare, 50G PON technology speeds AI-based pathology analysis, while optical terminals can connect to IoT devices in patient care spaces to support intelligent nursing services while safeguarding patient privacy. Meanwhile, in the hospitality industry, innovative technology that converts 2D video to 3D provides a more engaging entertainment experience for guests.

To date, Huawei’s FTTO solution has been deployed at more than 15,000 campuses worldwide.
