HSBC launches environmental project

JAKARTA: Banking firm HSBC Indonesia announced on Monday a plan to send nine of its staff from Indonesia to several countries to take part in environmental projects jointly run by the bank and UK-based environmental charity Earthwatch.

The nine members of staff are among 2,000 HSBC employees worldwide, who have been or will be selected to work alongside Earthwatch scientists on conservation projects, the bank said in a statement.

The nine selected are Sri Dewi Wardjojo, who will take part in a turtle project in Brazil, Sutarto (turtle project in the U.S.), Indriarti Sukarno (Barbados Hawksbill project), Rikin Bachtra (Jaguar tracking and monitoring project in Brazil), Denny Purwadi (Florida Manatee project), Adhianto Sardjono (Glacier project, Iceland), Dewi Damayanti (Green Turtles project in Malaysia), Amol Titus (Temple Monkeys project in Sri Lanka) and Yospehine Ria (Green Turtles project in Malaysia).

The individuals selected by Earthwatch will visit the project locations for two weeks and are expected to apply their experience upon their return to Indonesia. -- JP
