HSBC-BII sign credit card agreement

JAKARTA (JP): Hong Kong and Shanghai Banking Corporation (HSBC) credit card holders in Indonesia can now pay their bills through Bank Internasional Indonesia's (BII) Automatic Teller Machine under an agreement signed here on Tuesday.

The agreement was signed by HSBC Indonesia Chief Executive Officer Brian G. Fredrick and BII President Hiroshi Tadano.

"It's part of our program to satisfy customers as well as to acquire new ones," HSBC Indonesia vice president Lily Budiono (left) announced after the signing ceremony.

She said that the service, initially launched in early April followed a previous agreement in 1998 that allowed HSBC credit card holders to pay their bills through BII's offices.

BII's managing director for commercial, consumer and banking Rudi N. Hamdani said that BII would receive a fee of Rp 2,000 from every transaction made by HSBC credit card holders.

BII expected 10,000 transactions each month from HSBC credit card holders.

He said that the alliance would help BII raise its fee-based income, which would enable BII to reach its net profit target of Rp 600 billion this year, more than double the increase from Rp 283 billion.

HSBC established similar alliances with Bank Central Asia, and Bank Danamon prior to the latest agreement with BII, while BII have the same agreement with Citibank, Standard Chartered Bank, and AMEX. (05)
