HS Tobacco Magnate Sends Apology via Video Call After Kulon Progo Accident
HS tobacco magnate Muhammad Suryo, the owner of the HS tobacco business, was involved in a crash with a Jupiter MX motorcycle on Jalan Wates-Purworejo, Temon, Kulon Progo, in the Special Region of Yogyakarta (DIY). Suryo confirmed he would bear all medical expenses for the victims and cover their child’s education costs up to bachelor’s degree. The commitment was conveyed through his envoy, Dandan Jaya Kartika, when visiting the victims, named Aab Abdullah and his daughter, Deva, at RSUD Wates. It is to be noted that Suryo’s wife, Anis Syarifah, died in the accident.
“We have been dispatched by Mr Muhammad Suryo to visit Mr Aab and his daughter Deva and to ensure that their medical treatment proceeds smoothly,” Dandan said in a written statement received by detikJogja, on Tuesday 3 March 2026. “We apologise for only being able to visit now, as the funeral proceedings for Mr Suryo’s wife, who was among those who died in this crash, have just concluded,” he added.
According to Dandan, the condition of Aab and Deva is gradually improving following intensive care, including surgical procedures. “Alhamdulillah, the condition of Mr Aab and Ms Deva has improved. We have spoken with the doctors and all medical actions have been carried out, including the operations,” he explained.
Suryo’s side confirmed that all medical expenses for the two victims are fully covered. Suryo also stated a commitment to funding Deva’s education to bachelor’s level, as well as providing a donation and replacing the victim’s motorbike.
“We have already communicated with the victims’ families and, alhamdulillah, they welcomed it. The most important thing now is for Mr Aab, his daughter Deva, and Mr Suryo to recover quickly and be able to resume normal activities,” said Dandan.
Video Call: In this instance, Suryo also conducted a video call with the victims’ families to personally convey his apology. “Sir, I am sorry. If my wife has done anything wrong, I apologise. No one wants all this to happen,” said Suryo during the video call. He also hopes the two families maintain good relations after the incident. “Hopefully we can become a family. From today I regard you as my family. Once again I apologise,” said Suryo.
