HS Cigarette Boss’s Motorcycle Tour Ends in Fatal Crash in Kulon Progo
Businessman and founder of Surya Group, H Muhammad Suryo, widely known as the HS cigarette boss, was involved in a road traffic accident while touring on his motorcycle on Sunday afternoon. The crash occurred when Suryo and his wife collided with a Jupiter motorcycle on Jalan Wates-Purworejo at the Mlangsen Palihan four-way junction in Temon, Kulon Progo.
Kasi Humas Polres Kulon Progo, Iptu Sarjoko, said the incident happened at 16.45 WIB on Sunday 1 March 2026. The case is currently under investigation by Satlantas Polres Kulon Progo. Police have conducted a thorough at-scene analysis using Traffic Accident Analysis (TAA) and are examining the events of the traffic crash.
‘This process is conducted to ensure an accurate chronology of the incident, gather evidence, and complete data needed to determine the exact cause of the accident,’ he said. ‘We are also continuing to question witnesses at the scene and other relevant parties.’
Sarjoko added that results of the investigation, particularly the conclusions about the cause, cannot yet be disclosed as the process is ongoing. ‘We want to ensure all facts are collected objectively and professionally. We will provide further updates once the on-site analysis and investigation are complete,’ he concluded.
Wife of HS Cigarette Boss Dies
The accident resulted in the death of Suryo’s wife, Anis Syarifah. Panewu Ngaglik, Wawan Widiantoro, confirmed the death and said that Suryo and his wife were involved in a crash while riding a superbike in Temon, Kulon Progo, on Sunday (1 March 2026) afternoon.
‘Yes, that is correct. Inna lillahi wa inna ilaihi raji’un,’ Wawan told reporters on Monday (2 March 2026).
He said Anis has been buried today at the Tajem Muslim Cemetery in Sleman. ‘In the Tajem Muslim Cemetery, Maguwoharjo. They left from the wake around 12:30 WIB,’ he added yesterday.
Meanwhile, Suryo is undergoing treatment in hospital.
Suryo to Bear Medical Costs for Victims
One of Suryo’s emissaries, Dandan Jaya Kartika, revealed that Suryo will bear all medical expenses for the victims. Suryo also committed to funding the victims’ education up to bachelor level.
This was stated by Dandan when visiting the victims named Aab Abdullah and his child Deva at RSUD Wates yesterday.
‘We were sent by Mr Muhammad Suryo to visit Pak Aab and Dik Deva and ensure medical treatment for both proceeds smoothly,’ Dandan said in a written statement to detikJogja on Tuesday (3 March 2026).
‘We apologise for only being able to visit now as the wife of Mr Suryo who died in this accident was laid to rest earlier,’ he added.
Victims’ Families Respond
Aab’s wife, Ratih, said the family accepted the apology and wished for a peaceful resolution of the case. ‘Yes, we both apologise, and we hope for a peaceful settlement. We will mourn the death of the wife of Mr Suryo. We also forgive as we are all victims,’ she said.
Ratih noted that representatives of Suryo had visited the night of the incident to help with care.
‘I want this to be peaceful. It is a tragedy. No one wants this. We are all victims. We apologise for hearing that the wife of Mr Suryo died. We forgive one another as we are all victims,’ she said.
