HPSS Invites Youth to Mark Independence Through Humanitarian Action
The South Sulawesi Youth Association (HPSS) has invited young people to mark the independence anniversary through social activities, including blood donation and basic life support (BLS) awareness sessions. The event was held at the HPSS Secretariat in Rawa Bunga, Jatinegara, East Jakarta, on Sunday (23/8/2026).
The event, titled “Jejak Langkah Kemanusiaan: Dari Hati Pemuda untuk Denyut Nadi Negeri” (Traces of Humanitarian Steps: From the Hearts of Youth for the Nation’s Pulse), involved the Indonesian Association of Anaesthesia Nurses (HIPANI) DKI Jakarta, the Thalasemia Movement, and Cipto Mangunkusumo Hospital (RSCM).
The event was opened by Luqmanul Hakim, representing the HPSS Chairman. He said the activity was one way for young people to engage in social work and help those in need.
“This activity is a manifestation of HPSS’s commitment to continuously move and make an impact in society. Through collaboration with RSCM, the Thalasemia Movement, and HIPANI DKI Jakarta, we interpret the spirit of independence within the framework of mutual cooperation to help others, especially our friends who are thalassaemia survivors,” said Luqmanul Hakim.
Blood donation was one of the main activities. Prospective donors underwent health checks and eligibility assessments by the medical team before proceeding with the donation process.
The blood collected is expected to help meet the needs of patients, including thalassaemia survivors who require regular blood transfusions. Participants who did not meet the donor requirements also received information about health conditions for blood donation.
In addition to blood donation, participants attended a BLS awareness session. The material provided basic knowledge about initial actions that can be taken when encountering someone in an emergency before receiving treatment from health workers.
Rusman Wahyu Setiawan, Chairman of HIPANI DKI Jakarta and Chairman of the Organising Committee, said BLS education is important so that the public knows initial first-aid steps in emergency situations.
“Alhamdulillah, we are grateful that this social service activity, blood donation, and basic life support awareness session ran smoothly,” said Rusman.
Mustafa, representing the RSCM Blood Service Unit, also provided information about blood donation and the need for blood for patients. Health workers also ensured that the examination and blood collection process was carried out according to procedure.
HPSS Advisory Board member Andi Agung and Rawa Bunga neighbourhood head M. Miftah also attended the event. The activity was also attended by health workers, volunteers, activity partners, and local residents.
Rusman said similar activities could be continued by involving more participants and partners.
“We hope that activities like this can be held again through greater collaboration and reach more participants because blood donation and basic life support knowledge are very beneficial for the community,” he said.
