How West Jakarta City Government Tackles Street Robberies: Increase CCTV and Reactivate the Siskamling System

The Mayor of West Jakarta, Iin Mutmainnah, has assured residents that the local government is pursuing multiple strategies to tackle rising crime in her jurisdiction, including street mugging. The commitment was conveyed during an audience with the Forum Komunikasi Pimpinan Kota (Forkopimko) and a press conference responding to the surge in street crime in West Jakarta. ‘We are responding positively and it is a collective commitment to continue to cooperate to keep West Jakarta safe and prosperous,’ Iin said at the West Jakarta City Hall on Friday, 22 May 2026.

The principal step will be to increase surveillance cameras (CCTV) at various points, and to re-activate the Siskamling (neighbourhood security patrol) scheme. ‘First, we agree to independently prepare and urge all components of the West Jakarta area to jointly enhance CCTV security in their respective areas such as buildings, offices, places of business, and so on. We will issue an advisory letter as an implementation of the Governor’s directive,’ Iin said.

Regarding Siskamling, Iin stressed the importance of synergy among four pillars—TNI, Polri, the city government and its subordinates down to the kelurahan (neighbourhood) level—to safeguard their areas, especially at night. Iin also urged the public to help build a positive narrative on social media so residents can live calmly and feel secure. ‘Preventive and pre-emptive activities such as patrols and raids have already been carried out with the four pillars. There are also partners from community volunteers joining to conduct joint patrols,’ said Twedi.

She also asked residents to optimise P am Swakarsa (self-help security) and to utilise the 110 emergency call service in emergencies that threaten safety. She claimed that the 110 service is reliable and has been tested directly by Mayor Iin, who acted as a caller to test the service. ‘Do not forget, we in the Police have the 110 Presisi service as well. God willing, the Mayor who spoke earlier has also tried it as a mystery call, and the operator immediately answered and interacted. We ask for public support to join the collaboration,’ she explained.
