How to Verify Official 2026 Economic Census Officers from BPS

The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) is urging the public to verify the identity of officers before providing data for the 2026 Economic Census. This measure aims to prevent identity misuse while increasing public trust in the data collection process. The Daily Chair of the 2026 Economic Census at BPS, Windhiarso Ponco Adi, stated that all census officers deployed to the field are equipped with official identification that can be checked directly by the public. “Our officers are equipped with vests labelled Sensus Ekonomi 2026 and other identification such as name tags and letters of assignment. The name tag can be confirmed because it has a barcode, so it can be traced whether they are genuine officers or impostors,” Windhiarso said in Jakarta, quoted Monday (6/7/2026). He explained that all officers visiting homes or business premises are official personnel assigned by the district/city BPS according to their respective work areas. Therefore, the public should not hesitate to ask officers to show their identification before the interview process begins. According to him, BPS is also continuously coordinating with various stakeholders, ranging from local governments, sub-district heads, village heads, neighbourhood and community unit heads, to community leaders, to provide information regarding the implementation of the 2026 Economic Census to residents. Windhiarso said that if officers encounter residents who are still hesitant or refuse to be surveyed, they will first provide an explanation of the census objectives in a polite and professional manner. BPS hopes that this approach can improve public understanding of the importance of data collection. “We hope that during this explanation process, the public will change their minds and provide answers,” he said.
