How to Update Blood Type Data on ID Cards via Smartphone: Requirements and Procedures
Blood type data on electronic ID cards (KTP-el) can now be updated without the need to visit a Population and Civil Registration (Dukcapil) office in person. The Directorate General of Dukcapil of the Ministry of Home Affairs (Kemendagri) provides this data amendment service through the Digital Population Identity (IKD) application.
This service is intended to complete the population data of citizens, including blood type information that remains blank or requires updating. However, the public must still meet certain requirements before submitting a data change request.
Requirements for Updating Blood Type Data on KTP-el
The Deputy Head of the Technical Team for Resident Identity at the Directorate of Population Registration and Civil Registry (PPPS/Dafdukcapil) of the Directorate General of Dukcapil, Sesario Fernandes, stated that citizens must possess medical examination evidence to change their blood type data. This document must originate from an official healthcare facility or the Indonesian Red Cross (PMI). Medical proof is the primary requirement to ensure that the data entered into the population database matches the medical examination results.
“Blood type is important data, especially in medical emergencies. Unfortunately, many KETP-el have blank blood type columns because the update process was considered cumbersome. Now, we have made it easier through IKD,” said Sesario in Jakarta on Wednesday (2/9/2026).
He emphasised that blood type data cannot be changed based solely on the applicant’s claim without proof of examination. “We still require official medical evidence so that the data entered into the population database is accurate. This concerns safety, so there can be no arbitrary claims of blood type without a basis of examination,” he added.
How to Update KTP-el Blood Type via IKD
Once medical examination results are obtained, citizens can submit a data change request through the IKD application. The submission process is conducted digitally, so applicants do not need to bring physical documents to the Dukcapult office.
The steps are as follows:
Open the Digital Population Identity (IKD) application.
Select the ‘Pelayanan’ (Service) menu.
Select the ‘Perubahan Golongan Darah WNI’ (Change of Indonesian Citizen Blood Type) service.
Adjust the blood type data based on the medical examination results.
Fill out the digital application form.
Upload the blood type examination results as a supporting document.
Submit the application for processing and verification by Dukcapil officers.
Sesario noted that the entire process can be completed from home. Citizens only need to photograph or scan the medical examination results to be uploaded through the application.
“It is very practical because everything can be completed from home. Citizens just need to photo or scan their blood type check results, upload them to the system, and it is done. There is no longer any excuse to take leave from work or set aside special time to visit the Dukcapil office,” he said.
Application Status Can Be Monitored via the Application
In addition to digital submission, citizens can also monitor the progress of their application through the monitoring feature in the IKD application. With this feature, applicants can track the verification process conducted by officers without having to visit the Dukcapil office or contact officers to enquire about the progress of their files.
“Citizens can monitor it themselves through the monitoring feature in the application. This provides certainty; there is no need to call repeatedly or visit the office just to ask about the progress of the files,” explained Sesario.
If the application is approved by Dukcapil officers, the blood type data will be updated in the population database. This information will then be reflected in the issuance of the next ID card.
Basic Requirement: Applicant’s IKD Must Be Active
The blood type change service via IKD can only be used by citizens who already have an active IKD application. For citizens who have not yet activated IKD, the activation process must be completed first. Activation includes registration using NIK, email address, and an active mobile number, facial verification, and scanning a QR code in the presence of Dukcapil or sub-district officers.
“Once IKD is active, all elements of population data that require updating, including blood type, can be managed through the same single application. This is part of our vision to make IKD a single gateway for population services,” concluded Sesario.
