How to Report Permanent or Temporary Relocation for Newcomers in Jakarta

Residents who have just arrived or moved to Jakarta must promptly report to the Dinas Dukcapil. This is to process address changes or registrations for non-permanent residents. Citing the official website of Dukcapil under the Ministry of Home Affairs, the Director of Dafdukcapil, Muhammad Farid, reminded that no residents should go unrecorded, whether settled or temporarily residing. “Everyone is obliged to report so that population administration runs orderly,” said Director Muhammad Farid in Jakarta on Monday (30/3/2026). With this step, the Directorate General of Dukcapil hopes that Jakarta residents become an administratively orderly society and no more residents are missed from official records. The Head of Dinas Dukcapil for DKI Jakarta, Denny Wahyu Haryanto, explained that the awareness of new migrant residents to report to the RT/RW at their place of domicile is very important. The aim is for the population data of new migrants to be well and accurately recorded. Once recorded, the benefits will be felt by the residents themselves, namely facilitating their access to various public services in the future. Additionally, for the DKI Jakarta Regional Government, this is part of orderly population administration so that every resident is recorded. How to Report Permanent Domicile Change If new migrant residents plan to live or move their domicile to Jakarta, the person in question must report to the service counter at the Dukcapil office in the sub-district according to the latest domicile. The requirements are by bringing: - Certificate of relocation (SKP) for Indonesian citizens from the origin area; - Guarantee letter from the building owner if renting/contracting/staying in a boarding house/renting a house/apartment; - e-KTP; - Child identity card/KIA (if any). In the validation process, Dukcapil officers will ensure the validity of the guarantee letter, including verifying that the house in question is indeed privately owned by the guarantor or self-owned. How to Report Temporary Domicile Change However, if the new migrant resident does not plan to settle or is only staying temporarily (maximum one year) in Jakarta for certain purposes, then that resident falls into the non-permanent resident category.
