How to replace a damaged KTP in Jakarta: steps to follow
According to Jakarta Dukcapil, if your e-KTP is broken, faded and unreadable, or damaged, you should apply for a replacement of the KTP by the following steps:
Go to the Dukcapil counter at your kelurahan (sub-district) with the damaged e-KTP.
The officer will verify the data.
Fill in Form F-1.02 at the Dukcapil counter.
If everything is in order, the new e-KTP will be printed immediately.
How to Tell Real from Fake KTP
Citizens aged 17 and over must have a KTP as identity. There are several features to check to distinguish a genuine e-KTP from a fake.
Quoting the official site of Dukcapil Kemendagri, here are some features of a genuine e-KTP:
The genuine e-KTP has an integrated electronic chip embedded in the card that can be read by devices such as a card reader.
There are physical security elements such as holograms, special ink, and microtext that are difficult to imitate.
If in doubt, the safest step to distinguish real from fake is to verify directly with Dukcapil by checking the NIK and biometrics. The civil registry system will immediately show whether the identity is valid or the result of manipulation.
If there is suspected document forgery, the public is asked to report it to Dukcapil or the police so it can be verified and followed up.
When does NIK Expire?
Each citizen has only one National Identification Number (NIK) that remains valid for life. According to Dirjen Dukcapil Kemendagri, Teguh Setyabudi, Indonesia’s civil registry system has layered security to prevent identity duplication.
‘One NIK for one person and valid for life. Our system is already equipped with biometric verification of fingerprints and facial recognition, so there cannot be duplicate NIKs. If there are duplicate KTPs, it is almost certainly the result of physical forgery, not a system error,’ he stressed.
Meanwhile, Director Dafdukcapil, Muhammad Farid, highlighted the importance of public education so that people understand how to verify identity authenticity.
‘People can verify the authenticity of KTP through local Dukcapil. If in doubt about someone’s identity, simply check the NIK and biometrics in our system. We also encourage the use of Identitas Kependudukan Digital (IKD) as a safe and practical solution to prevent data misuse,’ he explained. (kny/idn)
