How to Refund and Reschedule Bromo Tickets Following August 2026 Fire

The Ministry of Tourism has provided certainty for thousands of tourists affected by the temporary closure of the Mount Bromo area due to forest and land fires. Tourists who already hold online tickets for the visiting period of 9 to 15 August 2026 can now apply for a refund or reschedule. "Reschedule applications will be exempt from schedule change fees and are valid until 31 December 2026," stated an official release from the Ministry of Tourism confirmed in Jakarta on Monday (10/8/2026). Based on data from the Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park Agency (BBTNBTS), thousands of prospective visitors had made online ticket transactions during the closure period. For tourists choosing the refund option, full reimbursement will be made via direct transfer to a bank account or e-wallet. This process is estimated to take between 3 and 14 working days. Tourists are required to complete an official form provided, uploading proof of ticket or valid proof of payment. The deadline for completing this form is set for 31 August 2026. Confirmation of the application will subsequently be sent via email or WhatsApp service. Regarding accommodation, the Ministry of Tourism has coordinated with the Indonesian Hotel and Restaurant Association (PHRI). However, to date there is no specific mechanism for hotel cancellations. The refund or rescheduling process for lodging still follows the normal policies of each service provider. The Ministry of Tourism expressed full support for the decision to temporarily close access to Mount Bromo for visitor safety. Currently, the government is continuously monitoring the progress of fire suppression in the national park area in coordination with relevant ministries, agencies, and local governments. "Our current focus is ensuring the fire handling process runs optimally and the area is truly safe before tourism activities are reopened," the Ministry stressed. Tourists are urged not to force travel to the closed area and to continue monitoring the latest information through official channels. The forest and land fires in the Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park (TNBTS) area in East Java have spread to approximately 520 hectares. The closure of four entrance gates to the Mount Bromo tourist area since Saturday (8/8) has begun to impact the economy of communities around the area.
