Zakat al-Fitr is one of the obligations that Muslims must fulfil during Ramadan. Therefore, it is important for every Muslim to understand how to pay Zakat al-Fitr, including the amount, payment deadline, and the prayer to be recited.

Information regarding the provisions for Zakat al-Fitr in Indonesia has been regulated and disseminated through official government institutions. By knowing the official guidelines, the public can fulfil Zakat al-Fitr in accordance with Islamic law and applicable regulations.

Provisions for the Amount of Zakat al-Fitr 2026

According to Islamic teachings, Zakat al-Fitr is paid in the amount of 1 sha’ of staple food, equivalent to 2.5 kilograms or 3.5 litres of rice per person. Referring to the official website of the National Amil Zakat Agency (BAZNAS), the staple food in question is generally rice, in accordance with the daily consumption of the Indonesian people.

BAZNAS also allows Zakat al-Fitr to be paid in the form of money. The amount is adjusted to the price of rice consumed. The nominal amount of Zakat al-Fitr in the form of money is determined based on the average price of rice prevailing in each region.

Based on the Decree of the Chairman of BAZNAS No. 14 of 2026 concerning the Value of Zakat al-Fitr and Fidyah of BAZNAS for the year 1447 H/2026 M, it is stipulated that the amount of Zakat al-Fitr this year is equivalent to IDR 50,000.00 per person.

Deadline for Payment of Zakat al-Fitr

Zakat al-Fitr can be paid from the beginning of Ramadan. This provides an opportunity for Muslims to fulfil this obligation early so that the distribution can be carried out immediately to those who are entitled.

The final deadline for payment of Zakat al-Fitr is before the Eid al-Fitr prayer. If paid after the Eid prayer, it is no longer considered Zakat al-Fitr, but rather ordinary charity.

The distribution to mustahik (recipients of Zakat) is carried out before the Eid al-Fitr prayer, so that Zakat al-Fitr can provide optimal benefits to the recipients.

The staff will then distribute the Zakat to the mustahik or recipients of Zakat who are entitled.

The Prayer to Recite When Paying Zakat al-Fitr

On the official BAZNAS website, it is explained that Zakat al-Fitr begins with reciting a prayer. The prayer to be recited differs depending on who is being represented, for example, for oneself, one’s children, or one’s family.

Here is the prayer for Zakat al-Fitr for oneself:

Arabic:

نَوَيْتُ أَنْ أُخْرِجَ زَكَاةَ الْفِطْرِ عَنْ نَفْسِي فَرْضًا لِلَّهِ تَعَالَى

Latin:

Nawaitu an ukhrija zakaatal fitri ’an nafsi fardhan lillaahi ta’aalaa

Meaning:

I intend to pay Zakat al-Fitr for myself, as an obligation for the sake of Allah Ta’ala.

By understanding the amount, payment time, procedure, and prayer, Muslims can fulfil Zakat al-Fitr correctly. Zakat al-Fitr is not only an obligation, but also a means of purifying oneself and helping others in anticipation of Eid al-Fitr.
