How to Obtain a Digital SIM

JAKARTA — The Indonesian National Police Traffic Corps (Korlantas) has introduced a digital SIM to streamline driver’s licence services. Acquiring the digital SIM is straightforward. This step is part of the police force’s ongoing digital transformation to provide more convenient, swift, and modern services for the public. Director of Registration and Identification (Dirregident) for Korlantas, Brigadier General Wibowo, stated that SIM holders must first install the Digital Korlantas app, available on the App Store for iOS and Google Play Store for Android. After downloading, users only need to complete a few quick registration steps. They must verify basic personal details to ensure account security and validity before synchronising their SIM data. Verification process is automated through Korlantas’ centralised database system. Once the data matches the owner’s real identity, the electronic driving document becomes active and securely stored in the user’s app profile. Wibowo added that the digital SIM can accommodate multiple types of SIMs. Users can store more than one SIM type in the Digital Korlantas app, which is beneficial for drivers with multiple licences, such as SIM A for cars and SIM C for motorcycles. This accessibility is expected to reduce traffic violations caused by classic issues like lost or forgotten physical SIMs. Additionally, the digital wallet serves as a tangible example of the police’s adaptation to modern lifestyles demanding high efficiency. ‘If police officers need to check your SIM, simply display the digital SIM in the Digital Korlantas app,’ said Wibowo. With full legal validity, the public no longer need to worry during routine road checks. Opening the official app allows officers to instantly verify the digital document’s authenticity without issues.
