How to Lower Your Decile to Qualify for Social Assistance

Deciles are divided into 10 groups. Society in deciles 1-4 is categorised as incapable and vulnerable, thus prioritised as recipients of social assistance (bansos). Meanwhile, the higher the decile number, the better the welfare condition.

However, economic conditions can change at any time. If previously sufficient, it can turn into very needy. Such changes are not always immediately updated in the National Social and Economic Single Data (DTSEN).

Therefore, you can request a decile reduction. The aim is for family economic data to better match real field conditions. With a lower decile, the chances of receiving social assistance (bansos) will be much greater because aid is distributed on target.

Data updates must come from oneself. When submitting proposals or updates, convey and explain the economic condition honestly, according to the actual situation. From that honesty, data can be verified and matched accurately.

DTSEN is compiled to capture real societal conditions. The process goes through stages of proposals, verification, to matching by BPS so every change requires time for valid and on-target results.

Here is how to lower the decile based on information from the Instagram post of Pusdatin Kesos (@pusdatinkesos).

  • Visit the village/sub-district or local social services office

  • Submit a DTSEN update application

  • Then, a survey will be conducted. Provide honest answers

  • After that, a village deliberation will be held

  • Next, the applicant’s data will be submitted to BPS for re-ranking
