How to Identify Unknown WhatsApp Callers with New Feature

WhatsApp has introduced three new security features in its application. These features will provide account protection and give users their own control.

“On WhatsApp, your conversations are only yours and the person you are chatting with. That is why we built end-to-end encryption by default, and continue to add new ways to keep your account safe and under your control,” WhatsApp said in a statement quoted on Friday (28/8/2026).

One of the features is Passkey. Users can log back into WhatsApp using a fingerprint, Face ID, or screen lock code.

This method will make self-verification faster and more secure, and it does not use a code or PIN. Each account can use more than one Passkey.

Android and iOS users can use it by going to Settings > Account > Passkey.

Next, two-step verification has become stronger. The six-digit PIN is no longer used, but has been upgraded to a full password that is longer, alphanumeric and with special characters.

The final feature is knowing information about other accounts that call the user. On Android, information about callers who are not in the contact list will appear, such as the country of origin of the number and whether the user and the caller are in the same group.

“Scammers rely on urgency. Now, you can calm yourself by finding out more information before answering,” the platform explained.
