How to Clear Your Name from OJK's SLIK (Formerly BI Checking)
A credit history in the Financial Services Authority’s (OJK) Financial Information Service System (SLIK), previously known as BI Checking, is one of the main factors determining whether a person can obtain financing from a bank or other financial institution. The worse the credit score, the smaller the chance of getting a loan. Currently, loan data from online lending services (P2P Lending) is also recorded in the SLIK, meaning that repayment history for online loans now affects credit assessments. Before this rule was implemented, the Indonesian Real Estate Association (REI) revealed that around 40% of mortgage applications (KPR) were rejected because applicants had poor credit scores, with one cause being payment arrears on online lending services. Beyond affecting access to financing, the OJK has also highlighted cases of job seekers failing to secure employment due to negative credit records in the SLIK. Agusman, Chief Executive of the OJK’s Supervisory Board for Financing Institutions, Venture Capital Companies, Microfinance Institutions, and Other Financial Services Institutions, stated that SLIK data can be updated once the borrower has made payments or taken steps in accordance with applicable regulations. The public can now check their SLIK status independently, so prospective debtors are advised to review their credit history before applying for a new loan. According to Pegadaian, the SLIK OJK score is divided into five categories, with score 1 indicating the best credit history and score 5 indicating bad debt. Generally, only debtors with scores of 1 and 2 can apply for bank credit without issues, while those with scores of 3, 4, and 5 need to repair their credit records first. The public can access the official iDebKu service via the idebku.ojk.go.id website to check their credit score. If a person already has a poor credit record, the only way to clear it, if there are outstanding arrears, is to fully settle all remaining obligations. However, if the arrears record appears due to a data error, the debtor can contact or report the issue to the relevant party for correction. Generally, data updates in the SLIK OJK are processed within a maximum of 30 days after obligations are settled. Debtors are also advised to request a certificate of settlement (SKL) as proof when applying for new loans or credit.
