How to Check Your Social Assistance Decile Without an App, Using Just a Mobile Phone
You can check your decile classification and social assistance status simply by using your National Identity Number (NIK). In addition to the mobile application, decile checks can also be carried out via the Ministry of Social Affairs website.
What Is a Decile?
According to the Ministry of Social Affairs’ Cek Bansos portal, a decile is a family welfare grouping measured against socio-economic variables including individual data (employment, education), housing conditions (state of the dwelling, electrical capacity) and asset ownership. There are 10 deciles, each containing 10 per cent of Indonesian families, where decile 1 represents families in the bottom 10 per cent of welfare, whilst decile 10 represents those in the top 10 per cent.
Deciles are dynamic. If the classification does not reflect actual circumstances, it can be updated through the village or sub-district office and the local social affairs agency, or through the Cek Bansos application by submitting data that reflects real conditions. The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) will then periodically recalculate the deciles.
Deciles are used to determine social assistance targeting. Deciles 1-4 (the bottom 40 per cent) are prioritised as recipients of the Family Hope Programme (PKH) and the Sembako food assistance programme. Decile 5 may still qualify for the Contribution Assistance Beneficiary for National Health Insurance (PBI-JK).
