How to Check if Your Android Phone is Blocked by WhatsApp or Not

WhatsApp has announced that it will only support specific versions of the Android and iPhone operating systems. Users may need to switch to newer handsets if their older devices do not support the required operating systems.

In its FAQ section, WhatsApp explained that it supports Android devices running OS 6.0 and newer. This support commenced on Tuesday, 8 September 2026.

Meanwhile, iPhones running version 15.5 and newer will be supported by WhatsApp starting from 30 November 2026.

WhatsApp clarified that it will notify users who do not meet the requirements before support is discontinued. The notification will request that users upgrade their operating system.

“Before we discontinue support for the operating system you are using, you will be notified within WhatsApp and reminded several times to upgrade your operating system,” WhatsApp stated.

In the announcement, WhatsApp explained that it continuously reviews which operating systems will receive support and performs updates. This is being done amidst changes in both hardware and software.

Every year, WhatsApp will review the oldest versions of devices and software, particularly those with the fewest users.

“These devices may also lack the latest security updates or may not have the necessary functionality to run WhatsApp,” WhatsApp explained.

• Open Settings

• Go to the About Phone menu

• Click Software information

• Select Android version

To find out which iOS version is being used on an iPhone, follow these steps:

• Open Settings

• Click the General menu

• Go to the About option

• Check which iOS version is currently in use
