Via the Identitas Kependudukan Digital (IKD) app, citizens can now apply for birth certificates online without visiting the Civil Registration office. This innovation ensures every Indonesian child obtains their identity rights from birth.

Quoting the official Dukcapil Ministry of Home Affairs website, Director General of Civil Registration Teguh Setyabudi explained that a birth certificate is a fundamental document guaranteeing citizens’ basic rights.

“A birth certificate is not merely an administrative document but the gateway for children to access essential rights, including education, healthcare, and social protection. With IKD, the application process is faster, more transparent, and secure,” said Teguh.

Here is how to apply for a birth certificate via the IKD app:

  • Open the IKD app

  • Enter your IKD PIN

  • After successful login, select the ‘Services’ menu on the Home screen

  • Enter the PIN again

  • Choose ‘Indonesian Birth Registration (Data already has NIK)’

  • Click ‘Apply’

  • In the Application section, fill in the required data

  • Upload necessary documents

  • Enter the captcha

  • After completing data entry and document upload, click ‘Apply’

  • Wait for verification

  • Once verified, the birth certificate will be issued digitally and accessible via the app

The system includes encryption and electronic signatures to ensure document authenticity. With the IKD birth certificate application service, Dukcapil reaffirms its commitment to providing fast, secure, and citizen-oriented civil registration services.

Civil Document Scanning Exclusively via IKD

The Ministry of Home Affairs’ Civil Registration (Dukcapil) has announced changes to civil document QR codes. Starting 1 January 2026, QR codes on Family Cards (KK), birth certificates, and other civil documents will no longer be scannable using Google Lens or third-party QR code scanners.

According to the Dukcapil Kemendagri Instagram account (@dukcapilkemendagri), civil document QR codes can only be scanned using the Identitas Kependudukan Digital (IKD) app. The IKD app is officially available on Google Play Store and App Store.

Scanning QR codes via IKD verifies that citizens’ documents are active and registered with the Civil Registration office.
