How Pertamina is Driving Business Growth and Energy Security
PT Pertamina (Persero) is continuously strengthening its Health, Safety, Security, and Environment (HSSE) culture as a foundation for maintaining operational reliability while supporting national energy security. This commitment was emphasised at the opening of the HSSE Jambore I 2026, themed ‘Energizing One Pertamina: Operational Capability Assurance’, at the HSE Training Center in Sungai Gerong, Palembang, on Thursday (23/7).
PT Pertamina (Persero) President Director Simon Aloysius Mantiri stated that as a national energy company, Pertamina is growing with increasingly complex challenges, both in terms of operations, technology, and business expansion. He noted that all this growth must be supported by a strong HSSE foundation. ‘When we talk about Pertamina today, we are talking about a large system that supports national energy security. The higher the targets to be achieved, the more solid the foundation that must be built. That foundation is HSSE,’ Simon said.
He explained that HSSE should not only be interpreted as compliance with procedures, but as a system that ensures all operations run safely, reliably, and consistently. Simon also conveyed that Pertamina’s HSSE performance has shown a positive trend throughout the year. However, he stressed that these achievements must be accompanied by sustained vigilance. ‘In HSSE, good achievements must not lead to complacency. Risks always exist, so discipline and vigilance must be continuously strengthened. We must always be mindful and cautious,’ he said.
Meanwhile, PT Pertamina (Persero) President Commissioner Mochamad Iriawan asserted that safety must be a core value in every operational activity. Strengthening the safety culture, according to him, needs to be supported by improving worker competence, continuous coaching, and investment in training and certification. He also emphasised the importance of visible leadership, where leaders are present in the field to ensure operations run safely and every potential risk can be anticipated early. ‘Leaders need to be present directly in the field, engage in dialogue with workers, and ensure every job is done safely. This includes having the courage to stop risky work,’ Iriawan said.
Carrying the theme of Operational Capability Assurance, the HSSE Jambore I 2026 serves as a platform for the Pertamina Group to strengthen competencies, align HSSE standards, and ensure operational readiness across all business lines. Through this activity, Pertamina is promoting the consistent application of HSSE principles in every work activity as part of efforts to maintain operational reliability and support national energy security.
