How Much Is Zakat Fitrah in 2026? Here Are the Rates
The National Zakat Agency (BAZNAS) of the Republic of Indonesia has established the rates for zakat fitrah and fidyah for the year 1447 Hijriah/2026 CE. The zakat fitrah for 2026 has been set at Rp 50,000 per person, equivalent to 2.5 kilogrammes or 3.5 litres of premium rice.
Meanwhile, fidyah for 2026 has been set at Rp 65,000. BAZNAS Chairman Prof. Dr. KH. Noor Achmad, MA., stated that the determination was made following an in-depth review that took into account rice price developments across various regions of Indonesia.
“Following an in-depth review and careful consideration, BAZNAS has set the zakat fitrah rate at Rp 50,000 per person, and established the fidyah rate at Rp 65,000 per person per day in accordance with BAZNAS Chairman’s Decree No. 14 of 2026,” read Kiai Noor’s written statement on the BAZNAS website.
The zakat fitrah and fidyah rates represent the amounts to be paid through BAZNAS. The provisions are intended to serve as a uniform guideline for the management of zakat fitrah during Ramadan 2026.
“Provincial BAZNAS offices, district and city BAZNAS offices, as well as Zakat Collection Agencies (LAZ) may use these zakat fitrah and fidyah rates as a reference for collection in their respective areas,” said Kiai Noor.
When Should Zakat Fitrah Be Paid?
Zakat fitrah (zakat al-fitr) is a form of zakat obligatory for every Muslim, both male and female, to be fulfilled during the month of Ramadan and completed before Eid al-Fitr. The obligation of zakat fitrah is based on the hadith of Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with him):
“The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) made zakat fitrah obligatory — one sa’ of dates or one sa’ of wheat — upon every Muslim, whether slave or free, male or female, young or old. He commanded that it be fulfilled before people go out for the prayer.” (Narrated by Bukhari and Muslim)
Zakat fitrah is obligatory for every soul, provided they are Muslim, alive during the month of Ramadan, and possess surplus sustenance or basic necessities for the night and day of Eid al-Fitr. The amount is 2.5 kilogrammes or 3.5 litres of rice or staple food per person.
Based on BAZNAS Chairman’s Decree No. 14 of 2026 concerning Zakat Fitrah and Fidyah Rates for BAZNAS for the year 1447 H/2026 CE, the zakat fitrah rate has been set at 2.5 kilogrammes or 3.5 litres of rice or staple food per person, or the cash equivalent of Rp 50,000 per person.
Zakat fitrah may be fulfilled from the beginning of Ramadan and no later than before the Eid al-Fitr prayer is performed. Meanwhile, the distribution of zakat fitrah to eligible recipients (mustahik) must be completed before the Eid al-Fitr prayer, specifically before the sermon leader ascends the pulpit.
