How Long Will Golkar Support Prabowo-Gibran? Bahlil Provides Explanation

The Chairman of the Golkar Party, Bahlil Lahadalia, has emphasised that Golkar will remain loyal in supporting the administration of President Prabowo Subianto and Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka to implement programmes aimed at improving public welfare. Speaking at the XI Regional Consultative Meeting (Musda) of the Golkar Party South Sumatra DPD in Palembang on Sunday (2/8), Bahlil stated that the support for the Prabowo-Gibran administration is a strategic political decision by the party.

Regarding the duration of this support, Bahlil noted that Golkar does not intend to limit its allegiance to a specific timeframe but will continue to stand with the administration. “If there are questions about how long we will be together, ask President Prabowo himself. Golkar will always be loyal to President Prabowo’s government,” he said. He added that Golkar holds a vital position in supporting the government’s operations, particularly in overseeing programmes that benefit the community.

In addition to affirming support for the government, Golkar has set targets to increase its legislative seats in the upcoming elections. “First, Golkar must increase its seats. Currently, we have 102; we must increase that number. In the provincial legislature, we currently have 11; this must rise above 12. The same applies to other regional legislatures,” he stated.

Bahlil highlighted that strengthening party structures and organisational consolidation are essential steps to achieving these targets. Consequently, he instructed Golkar officials, including those in South Sumatra, to strengthen the party machinery down to the regency, district, and village levels. “Following this Musda, I request the elected chairman to immediately carry out consolidation in regencies and cities, followed by districts and then villages,” he added.
