How Jaecoo Protects Consumers from Potential Price Increases

JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - The uncertainty around electrification vehicle incentive policies is forcing several automotive manufacturers to prepare strategies to maintain consumer interest. One example is the Chinese brand Jaecoo, which is offering a lock-price scheme for prospective buyers of its cars in Indonesia.

This programme is primarily aimed at its electric model, the Jaecoo J5 EV, which to date has recorded more than 15,000 Surat Pemesanan Kendaraan (SPK) in Indonesia.

The scheme is expected to give certainty to consumers who are interested in buying but are awaiting clarity of government rules.

Ilham Pratama, Head of Marketing Jaecoo Indonesia, said the move was taken because there is yet to be certainty regarding electrification vehicle incentive policies. Meanwhile, the company believes consumers still need clarity before deciding to buy a vehicle.

“We have not yet received information on incentives, but we cannot just wait. Consumers still want the product and are awaiting certainty,” Ilham told Kompas.com on Thursday, 5 March 2026.

He explained that the lock-price scheme allows consumers to lock the vehicle price from the outset. In this way, if price changes occur later due to new policies or other factors, consumers who have joined the program will still receive the price agreed upon.

“Should there be an incentive later that lowers the price of the car, the consumer will still receive the benefit. The price difference will be returned to the buyer.”

“Should there be incentives later, of course it will go back to the consumer because that is their right,” Ilham said.

However, Jaecoo emphasised that the lock-price programme is not mandatory. Consumers still have the freedom to participate in the scheme or wait until the vehicle price is officially announced in full.
