The Badan Pengelola Investasi (BPI) Danantara has revealed that it is still awaiting further developments on the results of the land tender auction for the Kampung Haji project development in Mecca, Saudi Arabia. Chief Investment Officer (CIO) of Danantara, Pandu Sjahrir, stated that the finalisation process is taking longer than anticipated due to the geopolitical situation in the Middle East region. “We are waiting from the government there (Saudi Arabia). Actually, we are also chasing it. From the side of the lot that we have bid on, there should have been news earlier, but we are still waiting. So we are always communicating,” said Pandu at the Fitch Ratings Annual Indonesia Conference on Thursday (23/4/2026). The dynamics in the region are also affecting the process. Pandu understands that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia Government is currently prioritising its country’s stability and defence interests first. “They are also experiencing shocks in Saudi. So in my opinion, their main interest is their national defence. That might be their primary interest,” he said. Nevertheless, Danantara continues to maintain communication with Saudi Arabia regarding the finalisation of the Kampung Haji land tender.
