How Astra's Prosperous Village Programme Helps Local Potential Drive the Economy

Two facilitators of the Desa Sejahtera Astra (DSA) programme, Zainul Arifin and Nur Ahmadi, have received the Satyalancana Kepariwisataan honour from President Prabowo Subianto. Both were recognised for their contributions to developing community-based village tourism potential.

Zainul is a DSA facilitator in Ketapanrame, Mojokerto, East Java, while Nur Ahmadi is a DSA facilitator in Wukirsari, Bantul, Yogyakarta. The award was presented by Minister of Tourism Widiyanti Putri Wardhana at the Sapta Pesona Building in Jakarta on Monday (17/8).

Astra’s Chief of Corporate Affairs Boy Kelana Soebroto said the company appreciates the recognition received by the two DSA facilitators, who have been mentored by Astra since 2023 and have contributed to providing benefits for the community while strengthening community-based tourism development. He described the award as a victory for all village communities who never tire of innovating, and expressed hope that it would inspire other villages to continue working and growing together with Indonesia.

In Ketapanrame, Zainul developed village treasury land into the flagship tourist destinations Taman Ghanjaran and Sumber Gempong. The development was carried out through multi-stakeholder collaboration and community investment managed by the village-owned enterprise (BUMDesa), thereby opening economic opportunities for residents while contributing to an increase in village original revenue (PADes). Meanwhile in Wukirsari, Nur Ahmadi developed tourism potential while preserving the environment and local culture, including through Batik Tulis Giriloyo.

These efforts have made Wukirsari increasingly known through tourism development and products based on local culture. The village even won The Best Tourism Village 2024 award from United Nations Tourism, while opening economic opportunities for the community.

The work of the two facilitators is part of DSA’s efforts to encourage communities to develop local potential so that it provides sustainable benefits for villages and their surroundings. The DSA programme now reaches 1,533 villages in 35 provinces with around 3 million beneficiaries, forming part of Astra’s ongoing social contribution to support the aspiration of shared prosperity with the nation.
