How a Teacher's Abuse of an Orphaned Pupil Was Exposed in North Sumatra
A video of residents storming the house of a civil servant teacher in Tanjungbalai City, North Sumatra (Sumut), has gone viral on social media. In the video, the teacher and her husband are said to have sexually abused a primary school pupil who is an orphan.
The abuse took place on Jalan Yos Sudarso, Teluk Nibung Subdistrict, Tanjungbalai City, on Monday (4 May). A teacher with the initials D and her husband, with the initials A, are suspected of abusing a 12-year-old primary school pupil.
“The commotion in Tanjungbalai: a civil servant teacher is suspected of bringing a male pupil to her husband to be sodomised,” read the caption of the viral video.
The case was reported to the police by the victim’s adoptive parents under Police Report Number: LP/B/132/V/2026/Polres Tanjungbalai/Polda Sumatera Utara, dated Monday, 4 May 2026.
However, residents felt the case was being handled slowly, as D and her husband were still seen going about their activities as usual. D was even still teaching at school.
Tensions peaked in the early hours of Thursday (23 July). Hundreds of people descended on D’s house on Jalan Burhanuddin, Perjuangan Village, Teluk Nibung Subdistrict.
The couple became the target of the mob. Residents beat D and her husband A. D, who was still in uniform, and her husband were dragged outside the house. Police who arrived at the scene immediately evacuated D and A to prevent further unrest.
The Head of Public Relations at Tanjungbalai Police, Ipda Muhammad Ruslan, said the abuse began when the suspect reportedly approached the victim under the pretext of lending him a mobile phone.
The suspect persuaded the victim, who is still in primary school, by lending him a mobile phone. When the victim was off guard, the suspect carried out his depraved act by removing the victim’s clothes and committing sexual abuse.
The abuse caused the victim to shut himself in his room. He even missed several days of school due to trauma. The victim’s foster mother, upon learning of the case, immediately filed a report with the police.
Ipda Ruslan added that investigators have taken several investigative steps, including receiving the police report, summoning witnesses from both the victim’s and the suspect’s sides, and taking statements from a psychology expert witness.
“The steps that have been taken include receiving the police report, summoning witnesses from the victim’s and suspect’s sides, and examining a psychology expert witness. The investigation is still ongoing,” he said.
