Houthis Deny Targeting Makkah

Doha (ANTARA) - The Ansar Allah movement from Yemen, known as the Houthis, stated on Tuesday (15/9) that they pose no threat to the holy city of Makkah or other Islamic holy sites in Saudi Arabia, as reported by Sputnik.

Earlier that day, the Saudi Arabian Civil Defence issued its first-ever air strike warning for the Makkah region, a location housing numerous sacred sites for Muslims.

“We firmly deny any threat from Yemen towards the holy city of Makkah or other holy sites,” said a military source, as quoted by the Houthi-run Saba news agency.

The source condemned the warning as a fabrication, deception, and disinformation being disseminated by Saudi Arabia.

The Kingdom had also urged citizens to seek shelter and follow official safety instructions.

The warning was issued through the National Early Warning Platform for Emergencies, according to the Saudi Civil Defence. Saudi authorities did not specify the nature of the potential danger.

Citizens were advised to remain calm and immediately move to the nearest safe location, particularly within buildings or interior rooms away from windows, and to remain in safety until the danger has passed.
