Houthis Claim Drone Strike on Saudi Aramco Facility in Jizan
The Houthi group has claimed to have launched a drone attack on an Aramco oil refinery in the southern region of Saudi Arabia. The Houthis said the attack was in response to violations of Yemen’s sovereignty, which serves as the group’s base, by Saudi Arabia.
A report by the Houthi-affiliated news agency Saba, as cited by AFP on Friday (14/8/2026), stated that two Houthi drones had been launched at an Aramco oil refinery in the Jizan region of Saudi Arabia.
The Houthi drone attack was claimed to have successfully hit the target at the Saudi oil refinery.
“A military source confirmed that the Yemeni Armed Forces targeted the Aramco oil refinery in the Jizan region using two drones, and successfully struck the target accurately by God’s permission,” the Saba news agency said in its report, referring to the Houthi forces as the “Yemeni Armed Forces”.
The Saba news agency also reported that the Houthi attack was a response to “violations of Yemeni airspace and sovereignty in the Saada and Hajjah areas” by Saudi Arabia.
According to a Houthi military source quoted by the Saba news agency, the Houthis would “provide a firm response to any violation of the country’s sovereignty or any act of aggression targeting this nation”.
There has been no official response from Saudi Arabia regarding the Houthi attack claim.
The conflict situation in Yemen had eased during a ceasefire between the Houthis and the internationally recognised Yemeni government, which is backed by Saudi Arabia, over the past several years. That calm ended last month as the raging war between Iran and the United States expanded further.
In July, the Houthis announced a maritime blockade against Saudi Arabia and attacked Saudi tankers sailing in the Red Sea.
On Sunday (9/8), the Iran-backed Houthis claimed to have struck Saudi oil facilities on the Red Sea coast in response to the infiltration of several drones from Saudi Arabia into northwestern Yemen.
The Houthi threat to shipping lanes and Saudi oil facilities comes amid Iran’s blockade of the Strait of Hormuz, which has become a key point of tension between Tehran and Washington in the midst of efforts to end the war.
