Houthis claim attacks on Riyadh and Aramco facilities in Yanbu
The Yemeni Ansar Allah movement, also known as the Houthis, launched retaliatory attacks against several strategic targets in Saudi Arabia, including Riyadh and the Red Sea port city of Yanbu, a Houthi military spokesperson stated on Thursday (24/9).
“We launched two special military operations in response to Saudi aggression. The first operation targeted important facilities in the opponent’s capital, Riyadh. The second target was Aramco facilities in Yanbu,” the spokesperson told the Yemeni broadcaster, Al Masirah.
He added that the military forces utilised ballistic missiles, cruise missiles, and unmanned aerial vehicles (drones) during the attacks.
The situation in Yemen escalated in mid-July when pro-government forces attacked Sanaa airport just as an Iranian aircraft, carrying a delegation of Houthi leaders, was landing.
The Houthis blamed Saudi Arabia for that attack, declared war against the kingdom, and vowed to continue hostilities until the blockade on Houthie-controlled territories is lifted.
Recently, they have also recorded significant progress in the south-western and western regions of Yemen, gaining control over the Red Sea coast and settlements near the Bab al-Mandab Strait.
