Houthis Attack Saudi Arabia Again, Two Injured

The Government of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has stated that two people were injured and a mosque was damaged due to a projectile fired by the Yemeni Houthi group. The attack hit the Jazan region in southern Saudi Arabia.

According to Al-Jazeera on Sunday (13/9/2026), several vehicles were also damaged by the projectile that landed in the al-Tuwal province, Jazan, on Saturday (12/9).

A spokesperson for the civil defence ministry described the targeting of civilian objects as a “flagrant violation of international humanitarian law.” He added that established emergency procedures have been implemented.

The Houthi group claimed their attack targeted a Saudi military base in Sharurah, in the southern Najran province.

Saudi Civil Defence subsequently stated that the danger had passed in the Khamis Mushait province after warnings were issued to residents there.

The Iran-backed Houthi group has launched missile and drone attacks in southern Saudi Arabia in recent days.

On Tuesday, the group attacked civilian and economic facilities in the Saudi cities of Abha, Khamint Mushait, Jazan, and Najran, injuring 73 people, including women and children.

The attacks against the Kingdom are part of a rapid escalation in the protracted conflict in Yemen, which flared up again in July after approximately four years of relative calm under a UN-mediated ceasefire.

Houthi fighters have seized control of the entire Yemeni Red Sea coast, capturing the strategic port city of Mocha, while Yemeni government forces have opened new fronts in al-Jawf, Marib, and al-Bayda.

More than 500 people have been killed and tens of thousands displaced due to the fighting, according to the International Organization for Migration and local officials.

The UN Security Council held an emergency session regarding this crisis this month, as Special Envoy Hans Grundberg warned that Yemen is facing a “new and more dangerous phase of war.”
