Houthi Drone Fragments Kill One in Saudi Arabia, Injure Two Others

Fragments from a drone launched by the Houthi group have killed at least one person in the territory of Saudi Arabia, with two others injured.

Reports from the Saudi Press Agency (SPA), as cited by Al Arabiya on Friday (18/09/2026), identified the deceased as a Yemeni national residing in Saudi Arabia.

According to the SPA, the fatality was caused by Houthi drone debris that struck the ground in the Taif region after being intercepted and destroyed by Saudi air defence systems on Thursday (17/09) local time.

The two injured individuals have been identified as a Saudi woman and a Pakistani national. It has been reported that the Pakistani national remains in critical condition at a local hospital.

The Saudi Civil Defence Directorate stated that their teams responded to the incident, which also caused material damage to several buildings and civilian vehicles in the area. The Saudi Civil Defence Authority confirmed that standard emergency procedures were implemented following the incident.

These civilian casualties occur as the Yemeni conflict has flared up again since last July, with Houthi forces engaging in fierce combat with Yemeni government forces supported by Saudi Arabia. The recent fighting has drawn Riyadh further into the conflict. The Houthis have announced a maritime blockade against Saudi Arabia and have targeted Saudi vessels in attacks within the Red Sea. Houthi forces have also launched a series of attacks against Saudi territory in recent times.

The group has claimed responsibility for launching large-scale operations involving missiles and drones targeting the King Khalid Air Base in Khamis Mushait. The Houthis have even threatened to expand the scope of their attacks deep into Saudi territory.

This week, Saudi Arabia accused the Houthis of deliberately targeting the holy city of Mecca with drone attacks, an allegation that has been strongly denied by the Houthi group.
