Houthi Attacks on Saudi Arabia Draw Condemnation

Houthi rebel attacks on Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, have drawn widespread condemnation, including from the Yemeni government.

Explosions were heard in Riyadh on Saturday (19/09/2026) local time, following air raid warnings issued by Saudi authorities after threats from the pro-Iranian Houthi group in Yemen. The Yemeni government views these attacks as a clear violation of Saudi sovereignty.

The Yemeni Ministry of Foreign Affairs, as reported by Al Jazeera, holds the Houthi group responsible for the attacks. The Ministry added that it also holds the Iranian regime responsible for providing continuous military support to the group, enabling them to pursue regional agendas.

Yemen has joined Egypt, Jordan, Bahrain, and the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) in condemning the attacks. The internationally recognised Yemeni government continues to receive ongoing military and coalition support from Saudi Arabia.

Meanwhile, fighting between the Saudi-backed Yemeni government forces and the Iranian-backed Huju fighters has claimed 48 lives in recent hours. Military sources from the Yemeni government confirmed 17 soldiers were killed, while 31 Houthi fighters were also reported dead.

The United States has advised its citizens outside the Middle East to reconsider travel plans to and through the region amidst increasing tensions. Via the Travel.Gov social media platform, the US Department of State stated that Americans in the Middle East should increase vigilance and prepare for potential flight cancellations, airspace closures, and travel disruptions.
