Bekasi Regency (ANTARA) - Chair of the Housing Task Force and Special Presidential Envoy, Hashim Djojohadikusumo, together with Danantara CEO Rosan Roeslani and Housing and Settlement Area Minister Maruarar Sirait, received a land grant of 30 hectares from the private sector to support the 3 Million Homes Program in the Cikarang area, Bekasi Regency, West Java.

The handover of the land grant was marked by the delivery of transfer documents at the site of a vertical housing development for low-income households and included a site visit prior to land maturation and unit construction.

“The need for decent housing in Indonesia remains very large. Based on government data, there are around 9 to 15 million families who do not own a home,” Hashim said in Cikarang on Sunday.

He explained that, according to government data, there are 27 million households still living in inadequately habitable homes. Therefore, the housing development program is one of the government’s priorities.

“The 3 Million Homes program per year is part of a strategy to stimulate economic growth while improving the welfare of the people,” he added.

Hashim noted that the housing sector has a large multplier effect on the national economy. Each housing project can energise more than 180 related industries, from construction materials to household furniture.

In addition to the project on the donated land, the government is preparing several other locations for vertical housing, including in Depok, which plans to utilise around 45 hectares of land for hundreds of thousands of housing units.

PKP Minister Maruarar Sirait expressed appreciation to Lippo Group founder Muchtar Riady and his family for donating the land to support the people’s housing program.

“This is not merely a commitment, but born out of a sense of togetherness and extraordinary humanity to help low-income households,” Ara said.

He explained that housing on the land would be developed in phases and is expected to yield up to around 140,000 housing units for low-income households.

“From the team’s assessment, with this 30-hectare land, we could build around 140,000 units,” he stated.

Meanwhile Danantara CEO Rosan Roeslani said the site visit was a first step to ensure that the development of housing for low-income households proceeds in a planned and sustainable manner.

“Providing decent and affordable housing for low-income people is one of the national development priorities. Through collaboration among the government, Danantara, the state-owned enterprises and the private sector, we want to ensure the housing area is designed thoroughly,” he said.

It is known that Lippo Group, a property developer, has officially donated the 30-hectare land to the government through Danantara as a contribution to support the 3 Million Homes program.

This strategic national program of President Prabowo Subianto is aimed at low-income communities by providing housing to address the housing backlog.

The 30-hectare land is projected to enable around 140,000 vertical housing units, equivalent to 5 percent of the national target of 3 million homes.

“The reason we donated this land is to support the President who has a heart for the people,” Lippo Group CEO James Riady said.

After the site visit, the Ministry of PKP together with Danantara Indonesia will continue the maturation process of the development concept, including the development scheme for the housing area, price-determination mechanisms and the formulation of concepts and criteria for purchase by low-income households.
