Housing project in trouble

KENDARI, Southeast Sulawesi: The resettlement project in Puupi Village, Kolono Subdistrict, Southeast Sulawesi, is in trouble as many houses have yet to be finished, says a legislator.

La Ode Palaido, a member of the provincial legislative council, who visited the transmigration site this week, said here on Friday that the Rp600 million-project had been declared completed, but many houses had not yet been built.

"The development company that carried out the housing project has left the resettlement site, while the local transmigration office could not explain why the project is not completed," he said.

According to him, the local transmigration office ought to be held responsible for the alleged irregularities in the project.

He said the development company should have built 100 houses for transmigrants, mostly from restive Maluku, but it had completed only a few dozen, while many others were unfinished.

He said he would ask the legislative council to call on the government prosecutor's office to investigate irregularities in the project. --Antara
