Indonesia’s Housing and Settlements Minister (PKP) Maruarar Sirait (Ara) has discussed the formulation of the subsidised apartment housing (rusun) project in the Meikarta area, Bekasi Regency, West Java, highlighting the role of Cabinet Secretary (Seskab) Teddy Indra Wijaya in these deliberations.

“I also want to share one strategic role that I am revealing today for some journalists who often accompany me, regarding the remarkable role of Seskab Lieutenant Colonel Teddy,” said Ara during the groundbreaking ceremony for the Meikarta subsidised apartment housing project in Bekasi Regency on Sunday, 8 March 2026.

Ara stated that Seskab Teddy was highly organised and skilled when discussing the project. This included aspects of the 3 million homes programme. “How I discussed these ideas with him. The details, the legal matters, the financing innovations. Frankly, I have discussed a great deal with him. Still young, cautious, and detail-oriented, and solution-focused. What I appreciate is that he is solution-focused and quick,” he said.

On the same occasion, West Java Provincial Secretary (Sekda) Herman Suryatman mentioned that the various challenges in the housing project in Bekasi were quite considerable, as they needed to address a backlog of up to 250,000 families (KK).

He noted that various suggestions put forward by Seskab Teddy were deemed helpful in resolving various obstacles in the subsidised apartment housing project in Bekasi Regency. “Mr. Teddy offered ideas. Remarkable thinking. So I also need to thank him because he has helped a great deal with the processes here,” said Maruarar in response to the West Java Provincial Secretary.

Separately, Housing Task Force (Satgas) Chair Hashim Djojohadikusumo described the development of subsidised apartment housing in the Meikarta area, Bekasi Regency, as a model project for President Prabowo Subianto’s 3 Million Homes Programme.

“First and foremost, I want to express my gratitude to our host who also donated land, Mr. Mochtar and Mr. James. More than 30 hectares, which I saw earlier. The possibility of around 140,000 apartment units as Mr. Rosan (CEO of Danantara) mentioned earlier is historic and remarkable,” said Hashim.

He exemplified that the development of approximately 140,000 subsidised apartment or housing units in the area would drive demand for various products, such as household furniture, beds, and electronic equipment.

Hashim added that the housing project would also contribute to the national economic growth target. “I am very confident, and President Prabowo Subianto is very confident, that we will achieve 8 per cent. Because from housing alone we have calculated 1.5 to 2 per cent,” he emphasised.

According to Hashim, the Meikarta subsidised apartment housing project is expected to serve as an example for other housing projects in Indonesia. “I believe this will be one of the exemplary projects. A good example for other housing projects in Indonesia,” he said.
