Housing development
Housing development
From Pelita
Housing developers have recently overwhelmed us with their
offers of well-located houses in Greater Jakarta. There is a
similarity in their advertisements which extol a natural
environment with a plantationlike ambience and a congenial
climate as if on mountain slopes.
It is all very well to provide those amenities to prospective
customers who aspire to enjoy the clean and cool air of the
mountains.
The problem is, does such development not encroach upon the
existing order of the environment? I would suggest to the
authorities that they give the necessary guidance to developers
to participate in conservation by further developing plantation
and agriculture land in support of the pristine condition of the
environment. Lakes should also be maintained as part of the
efforts to conserve the environment and not be eliminated in the
interests of developing residential areas.
