Housewives in Tabanan Urge President Prabowo to Lower Basic Food Prices
A number of residents appeared enthusiastic to welcome the arrival of President Prabowo Subianto during his visit to the Sekolah Rakyat Menengah Pertama (SRMP) 17 Tabanan in Sentra Mahatmiya, Tabanan, Bali. Among them were housewives who had been waiting for the President’s arrival since early morning.
One resident, Widia, conveyed a message to President Prabowo requesting a reduction in the price of basic food commodities. For housewives like herself, the current prices of essential goods have soared significantly.
“I hope that the President can lower the price of basic food supplies,” said Widia while welcoming President Prabowo in Tabanan on Sunday (7/6/2026).
“Particularly the price of chillies. They are expensive right now. If possible, I hope they return to normal levels. It is difficult for housewives,” she added.
President Prabowo arrived at SRMP 17 Tabanan at approximately 11:30 WITA. He waved to the crowds from atop a Maung vehicle as he passed residents lined up along the roadside.
Widia and other residents expressed their joy at being able to see President Prabowo in person, noting that they had previously only seen him via social media or television.
It is noted that President Prabowo’s visit was part of an inspection of SRMP 17 Tabanan in Sentra Mahatmiya, Tabanan, Bali. His arrival was met with a marching band and a Kecak dance performance by the students of SRMP 17 Tabanan.
‘Sekolah Rakyat’ (People’s School) is an educational programme designed for economically disadvantaged communities. SRMP 17 Tabanan in Bali is currently the only school of its kind on the island of Dewata.
At present, there are 75 students enrolled at SRMP 17 Tabanan, hailing from various regions in Bali, including Tabanan, Gianyar, Buleleng, Badung, and Denpasar City.
