Houses collapse in landslide

PURWOKERTO, Central Java: At least four houses in the Binangun
village, Banyumas regency, collapsed in a landslide which
occurred on Saturday, while eight other houses have been left
standing precariously.

There were no fatalities but some villagers had to seek
shelter with neighbors while waiting for their houses to be
repaired.

The Antara news agency reported that the landslide occurred at
about midnight following hours of rainstorm.

Slamet Sudiro of the local social service office said the
government has provided medicine, food supplies, clean water and
construction material for the villagers. (swe)
