The Deputy Governor of Jakarta, Rano Karno, has ensured that students impacted by the fire in Kebon Kosong, Kemayoran, Central Jakarta, will still be able to participate in rescheduled examinations. This policy was implemented because the fire occurred while several schools in Jakarta were conducting their final semester examinations (UAS).

Rano stated that he had contacted the Head of the Jakarta Education Office to ensure the welfare of the students affected by the fire. According to Rano, the Education Office has prepared a policy allowing affected students to take their exams despite having lost school equipment due to the blaze.

“No, Sir, they can follow up later. That is the policy. God willing,” Rano said, quoting the response from the Head of the Education Office.

However, many students have lost uniforms, textbooks, and school bags because their homes were destroyed by the fire. “I received reports that no school buildings were burnt. However, the children may have lost their clothes, books, and bags. Therefore, we have implemented a policy allowing them to take the exams at a later date,” said Rano.

With this policy in place, students do not need to worry about losing the opportunity to sit for their exams while facing the disaster. Rano added that the Jakarta Provincial Government, through the Department of Population and Civil Registration (Dukcapil), has assisted in the re-issuance of lost or burnt documents.

“Our Dukcapil has also handed over Family Cards (KK) and ID cards (KTP). This means if anyone has not yet found their documents, they should immediately report to the relevant department so that all documents can be prepared,” Rano said. He noted that the government will assist in the process of managing and re-issuing lost documents so that residents can quickly return to their normal activities.
