Houses burgled during holiday

BOGOR: Robbers broke into two houses and a boarding house for students of the Bogor Institute of Agriculture in Bogor City. The houses were left empty as both owners and students had returned to their hometowns to celebrate the Idul Fitri holiday, which fell on Nov. 25 and Nov. 26.

Rasadi, a construction developer living in Bogor Baru complex, Tegallega subdistrict, North Bogor district, lost 200 grams of gold jewelry and Rp 2.5 millions (US$294.12) in cash.

Rasadi said that his house had been empty since Nov. 22 as his family had been staying at his parent's house in Jombang, East Java. He returned home on Friday at around 8:30 a.m. to find that the door had been forced open.

Lili Kurnia Wulan, 62, who lives in the Villa Padjadjaran Indah complex, Ciheleut subdistrict, East Bogor district, lost Rp 5 million in cash and two cell phones.

"We returned home from our Idul Fitri trip on Friday at 7 a.m. and I was shocked to see my bedroom window open," said Lili.

The robbers that broke into the boarding house in Sempur subdistrict, Central Bogor district, stole 30 pairs of sandals, a money box, a computer, a radio tape and a television owned by students.

Yamico Fauzan, one of the students, said that he didn't realize anything was missing until Friday at 3:30 p.m. He suffered Rp 16 million in losses.

Bogor Police are investigating the case. -- JP
