Household Furniture Warehouse in Gianyar Destroyed by Fire
A wholesale warehouse for household furniture located on Jalan Gunung Lempuyang, Gianyar, has been destroyed by fire. As a result of the incident, almost all household goods were lost in the blaze.
“A collection warehouse for plastic household items caught fire. The incident occurred in the afternoon at 13:17 WITA,” said the Gianyar Police Chief, Kompol I Made Adi Suryawan, when met at the scene on Saturday (5/9/2026).
Suryawan stated that the incident was reported by three warehouse employees, who ran out seeking help as the flames spread.
Shortly after, eight fire engines from the Gianyar, Ubud, and Sukawati fire stations arrived at the location, and immediate firefighting efforts were launched.
“The employees saw thick smoke and flames, so they immediately ran to save themselves; therefore, there were no casualties,” said Suryavan.
The fire was brought under control at approximately 14:30 WITA. Firefighters continued to manage the scene by spraying the area to prevent any new hotspots from emerging.
Observations at the scene showed firefighters continuing to spray the piles of furniture in the warehouse with one fire engine.
“We are still performing cooling operations, but the fire has been under control for some time,” said an officer from the Gianyar Fire Department.
Elfa Widya, the shop owner, did not know the exact cause of the fire, but suspected it was triggered by an electrical short circuit.
“It might have been an electrical short circuit, but I certainly do not know for sure,” said Widya.
Widya has suffered losses of approximately Rp 1.5 billion due to the fire disaster. Fortunately, her three employees managed to escape after spotting the thick smoke early on.
“I was in the shop across the street. I also saw the thick smoke,” Widya added.
