House urged to quiz Laksamana

JAKARTA: To settle the public controversy over the divestment of state-owned telecommunications company PT Indosat, the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI Perjuangan) urged the House of Representatives on Tuesday to summon State Minister for State-Owned Enterprises Laksamana Sukardi.

The divestment has led to widespread public rejection and accusations that PDI Perjuangan received some funds from the divestment program.

"To clear the accusation, the (PDI Perjuangan) chairwoman has asked the House to summon Laksamana to explain the process," party deputy chairman Roy B.B. Janis said on Tuesday after the party's weekly meeting.

Laksamana, also a PDI Perjuangan cadre, is known to be a favorite aide of party chairwoman Megawati Soekarnoputri, who is also the country's President. --JP
