House to select ad hoc supreme justices

JAKARTA: The House of Representatives' Commission II for legal and domestic affairs approved on Thursday the nomination of 10 people for human rights ad hoc supreme justice posts.

A. Maskur Effendi, H.T. Bustomi, Sumaryo Suryokusumo, Edi Junaidi Karna Sudirja, Poltak Sahatua Simanjuntak, Sakir Ardiwinata, Ronald Delfianus Titahelu, Lawan Bahtera Tarigan, M.S. Lumme and B. Munajad were declared fit to run for the posts.

The legislators left out former supreme court justice Adi Andojo Sutjipto, criminal law professor Loebby Lukman, and police officer Sr. Comr. Munir from the selection process as they failed to complete administrative requirements.

"But they will be allowed to undergo the fit and proper test if they fulfill the administrative requirements by Sept. 25," a House commission deputy chairman Hamdan Zoelva said.

Former minister of justice Muladi, constitutional law expert Sri Sumantri and Sorta Simanjuntak had withdrawn from the selection.

The House commission will select at least three ad hoc supreme justices due to their workload, Hamdan said. -- JP
