House to Invite Academics and Hotman Paris to Discuss Asset Forfeiture Bill
Commission III of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR) will invite legal academics from various universities and legal practitioners, including Hotman Paris, to discuss the Asset Forfeiture Bill. The decision was made to gather broad input, similar to the process used for the Criminal Procedure Code (KUHAP). Commission III Chairman Habiburokhman stated that the commission will invite legal academics from all willing law faculties across Indonesia. In addition to academics, the commission will seek insights from experienced legal practitioners in asset forfeiture cases, with invitations already extended to figures such as Hotman Paris, Maqdir Ismail, Juniver Girsang, and Ari Yusuf Amir. Habiburokhman also dismissed as a hoax information suggesting that Commission III is rejecting the discussion of the Asset Forfeiture Bill, noting that several public hearing meetings have already been held. He further denied that transferring the bill from a government initiative to a DPR initiative is a tactic to slow down deliberations. He explained that the change would speed up the process because the Problem Inventory List (DIM) would only come from the government, rather than from eight different factions, which could result in numerous overlapping but differently worded submissions.
