House to decide on priority bills

JAKARTA: The House of Representatives leaders will organize a meeting next week with all its commissions and committees to approve bills the legislative body will focus on in the current sitting.

House's Legislation Body (Baleg) chairman Zain Badjeber said on Friday that the priority bills would be chosen only after hearing the views of all nine House commissions.

In the opening session on Monday, House Speaker Akbar Tandjung said the lawmakers would discuss 46 bills within 35 days.

Zain said 14 of the bills remained at the State Secretariat waiting for the President's decision on which minister would represent the government in their deliberation.

The House has been the target of criticism for its poor performance in passing legislation. - JP
