House Speaker Requests Cybersecurity Bill Draft Not Be Circulated to Public to Prevent Hoaxes
The House of Representatives (DPR) through Commission I has approved the deliberation of the Cybersecurity and Resilience Bill (RUU KKS) with the government. Commission I Chairman Utut Adianto has requested that his staff and the government refrain from circulating the draft bill to the public. This measure is intended to minimise the emergence of hoaxes within society.
The statement was made by Utut during a meeting with the government at the Parliament Complex in Senayan, Central Jakarta. Deputy Minister of Law and Human Rights Edward Omar Sharif Hiariej, also known as Eddy Hiariej, was in attendance.
“I request that at this stage, these drafts should not be released first. Because there will be too many hoaxes,” Utut said during the Commission I meeting on Monday, 29 June 2026.
Utut also asked Deputy Minister Eddy Hiariej to form a strong bill drafting team. “From the government, it is entirely up to the government. I just ask, Mr Eddy Hiariej, please form a strong team. A diligent team. Diligence is important, Sir, because things like this are very tedious,” he continued.
Utut further explained that the draft of the RUU KKS would be opened to the public once discussions have reached a certain stage. “Later, when we have discussed it up to a certain stage, if it is needed, we will give it to the public,” Utut concluded.
