House Speaker Pays Tribute to Late Vice President Try Sutrisno as Warm and Humble Figure

Jakarta — House Speaker Puan Maharani has described Indonesia’s sixth Vice President Try Sutrisno, who passed away on Monday morning, as a warm and humble figure. Speaking on behalf of herself and the House of Representatives, Maharani conveyed deep condolences to the nation over Sutrisno’s death, noting that the Republic of Indonesia had lost one of its most significant national figures.

“May his deeds and devotion ease the departed’s path to the Hereafter. And may the family left behind be granted steadfastness,” Maharani said in a statement in Jakarta on Monday.

Maharani remembered Sutrisno as a role model who maintained close connections with all generations. She recalled frequently encountering him at various national events, including at the House of Representatives’ Annual Session last year. “I greeted him and, as always, he was warm and humble,” she remarked.

According to Maharani, Sutrisno’s passing represents a loss for all Indonesians. She assessed that his contributions to the nation and state were immense, prompting widespread mourning across the country. “May his struggle continue to be pursued by future generations, and may what Bapak Try Sutrisno has left behind continue to benefit Indonesia,” she stated.

Try Sutrisno passed away at the Army Central Hospital (RSPAD) Gatot Soebroto in Jakarta on Monday morning at approximately 07:00 Western Indonesia Time. News of his death was conveyed through a message distributed on behalf of his family and the Pancasila Ideology Development Agency (BPIP), and was confirmed by several officials from the Presidential Secretariat and the Presidential Security Detail.

According to the announcement, Sutrisno’s body will be washed at RSPAD before being transferred to a funeral home at Purwakarta Street No. 6, Menteng, Central Jakarta.
