House Speaker assures NTT people they are not alone

Jakarta (ANTARA) - House of Representatives (DPR) Speaker Puan Maharani has assured the people of East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) affected by and victims of the earthquake that they are not alone, as she has assigned DPR members from the NTT electoral district to be on standby at the location.

According to her, the DPR members from the local electoral district will carry out whatever is necessary. Some time ago, she said, the DPR leadership also visited NTT to coordinate with the local government.

“We have also coordinated, and we will send aid that has been checked to determine what is needed,” Puan said after a plenary session at the parliamentary complex in Jakarta on Tuesday.

To that end, she expressed her deepest condolences to the people of NTT over the natural disaster that occurred.

“The DPR, the government, elements of society, political parties, God willing, will all work together to immediately accelerate the process or expedite the aid that must be promptly delivered there,” she said.

The National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) announced that as of Sunday afternoon, the death toll from the 7.7 magnitude earthquake in East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) had reached 53.

Joint personnel have also evacuated and provided medical treatment to the injured. The total number of injured reached 137. Currently, the injured are being treated at the nearest health facilities as well as emergency health facilities.
